The Longest Day – Hamilton to Miami

UFOs over the Pacific Mar 2011

Todays the first and the longest day of the trip. Traveling from Hamilton in Vicoria to Miami in the USA. Up at 4am for the 2 hour drive from Hamilton to Ballarat with Mum’s taxis (Thanks Mum) to catch the Ballarat Airport Shuttle to Melbourne Airport 1.5 hours.

Steven having A long day at LAX Airport

No hastles at the airport although the additional suitcase saw us using an airport trolley on this trip. Something we usually avoid as it means we have too much luggage!! This trip is months not weeks so I guess an exception can be made.
15 hours and 4 movies later we arrive in Los Angeles at 7am (3 hours before we left Melbourne) for the 8 hour wait for the 4.5 hour flight to Miami. Steven did managed to get some sleep in the airport lounge.
We finally arrived by taxi at the Baymont  Inn and Suites at Doral at 12:30am local. I picked this hotel as being reasonably close to the airport 12k and had a complimentary airport shuttle. Unfortunately the shuttle does not run after 11pm. There is a board at LAX just near the taxi rank that gives you the approximate fares to the various areas. Doral was $10 so not to bad. The taxi fare actually came to $35.00 which seemed expensive but who wants to argue at 12:30 am after 28 hours travel!
Bed and a rest day planned for tomorrow
A long day for us the 15 March lasted for 32 hours!!
