Camino Vezelay Day 10 – Bouzais to Le Chatelet en Berry

Bouzais to Le Chatelet en Berry 25.35 km, 298.99 km walked.

Passed over a busy freeway this morning. Amazing how fast we can get from one place to another and how loud it is. It’s not long before I leave the noise behind and it’s just the birds twittering and the constant light squeak coming from my backpack which I really have to fix.

Met two pilgrims from Belgium that have walked all the way from Belgium to Santiago de compostella and are now walking all the way back to Belgium. Wow! And I thought I was walking a long way.

I liked the route today, more open. I could watch the farmers harvesting the wheat and working in the fields. Then some shady forest walking to break up the day.

Thank goodness for cemeteries as a source of drinking water.

The accommodation tonight is bliss. From a cramped pilgrim refuge on a top bunk in a tiny room with 4 others snoring and farting to a self contained apartment. A room and bathroom to myself, with a real towel not a microfiber water spreader, my own power points and actual sheets on the bed!

There is a bar in this small town and a church of course. Bar and huge beer first. Then I walked up the hill through the town to the church. A very different design of church here. The Abbey Church of Puyferrand built in the 11th century and still in use.

What amazes me is in this part of rural France almost all the churches are left open. In fact the only ones locked so far have been under restoration.

Le Chatelet is known for its pottery

If I take the marked route it will be over 30 km to the next stop tomorrow. May have to see if I can trim some off that distance with an alternative route.
