Another late start 8:30 and headed out of Sorges following the OSM navigation app I am using. Anyway long story short, went nearly a kilometre the wrong way before I realized it.
Mostly forest walking today so very pleasant. Transited a popular mountain bike and hiking area. Even went through a large hilltop glamping area with lots of vacationers. Passed a few walkers and mountain bikers exploring the forest trails.
A lot of different fruits and berries by the track today. 3 different types of plums. The small wild purple ones are to tart to eat. But there was a more red/yellow plum today that I have not seen before which were nice. Apricots, also what looked like blueberries but I was not sure so left them alone. Sloe berries are common. They are black and you can eat them but not to many. They put them in gin. Sloe gin is a British red liqueur made with gin and sloes. Walnut trees have been very common since I started but yesterday and this morning there are lots of orchards of them.
A forest lunch stop eating chevre and piment chips. Ok literal translation is goat and chilli but is goat cheese and chili flavour. Probably not going to be on Australian supermarket shelves any time soon.
The last few kilometres were less than ideal walking through Périgueux city outskirts hot black tarmac and no shade. Did a walk around the old city. Lots of people here.
This is a tourist town so people and shops everywhere. I visited the immense Cathédrale Saint-Front de Périgueux. The cathedral is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of the Routes of Santiago de Compostela in France.
The pilgrim refuge is a bit further out from the city and opposite the Eglese Saint Martin. Which just rang 10 bells for 10pm. Some ring all night and some don’t. 12 pm is the tell. If they ring 12 bells at midnight then your going to know what time it is every 15 minutes all night.
Have a room to myself and washing machine washed clothes! Will head off smelling nicer tomorrow. Had dinner last night and again tonight with the hospitalarios. Tonight a home cooked local french meal of duck, lentil dish and sauteed potatoes. Actually 5 courses aperitif, salads, main, cheeses, ice cream cake, and wine.
No complaints from me here! 11pm No Bells:-)
