A day of rest was a great idea. Refreshed and raring to go at 2am this morning!! Today we head off from Miami to the Florida Keys and Key West, the Continental USA’s most southerly point, and will checking in to our next hotel at Tevernier on the way.
It is “Spring Break” here this week. This is somthing akin to the Australian schoolies week on the gold coast. Although much more subdued, I guess because they have to go back to school after the break. So there are plenty of young people around, the hotels are full and prices are up.
With a strong Australian Dollar It is a great experience to come to the USA and things are cheaper!! See the Aust Wine photo……..
Managed to wait till 9am and catch the hotel shuttle to the airport to catch the rental car shuttle to collect our rental car. The rental car foyer seems bigger than most airports in Australia!!
The Keys are an interesting 120k + long string of small islands connected by the overseas highway. I guess being able to drive to Carribean Islands surrounded by white sand and shallow clear turquoise waters makes this a very attractive and warm place to live. Unfortunately this promotes development and many of the islands along the route have in the main are covered with large houses, private jetties and condiminiums.
