Voie Vezelay Day 11 Le Chatelet en Berry to La Chatre 28.65 km
Tactical day today. The marked route to the next accommodation is over 30km so I worked out an alterative route of 26 km. A few kilometres of main rd walking then small roads. To put in context saw a car every 5 to 10 min on main road and more tractors than cars on the smaller roads.
All in all a pleasant walk today primarily through farmland. But a long walk nonetheless and I walked some extra k’s looking for the accommodation which ended up being in the presbytery next to the amazing L’église Saint Germain.
5pm Sunday afternoon everything is closed except one bar. Just Preparing to use some of my emergency food when 3 other pilgrims invited me to join them for dinner. Nice evening I had Belgian beer, French wine and pizza.
L’église Saint Germain The present church is located on an historic site in the heart of this once fortified city. The original was probably built in the 11th century. In 1152, a fire broke out and another church was erected, with a nave 30 metres in length. The bell tower was not added until the 14th century.
