Leaving the Sound of Music – Salzburg to Bavaria

This morning we continued our Sound of Music theme and took the No 3 bus to Mirabelle Gardens which contains the Palace and tree lined driveway that the scene of Maria and the Von Trapp children singing Do Re Me was filmed.

We took the cable car up the Monchsberg Cliffs where you are able to view the Nunn Abbey again featured in the Sound of Music. The church is also situated here and the gates that featured the Von Trapp children asking the Sister’s to see Maria.

From the Monchsberg Cliffs you have the advantage of taking photos of the old and new Salzburg City and its historical features. We proceeded back down the cliffs by steps to the old city square.

Overlooking the old City of Salzburg

Back to the motor home and on the road again at 1pm. Our GPS being cantankerous at the best of times, took us through the narrow streets of Salzburg and we emerged the other side of the city 45min later and 7km only into our journey.

We entered Germany at 1:50pm on the freeway and drove through Bavaria where mountains, rolling green hills with cattle grazing and small villages was a picturesque scene. The Bavarian Alps towered in the distance. Napoleon made Bavaria a kingdom in past history and it became part of Germany with Munich it’s capital. Here is where you see fairy tale castles.

Late afternoon we arrived in Bad Bayersoein which was our planned destination for the night.
